Reggie and friends

Reggie had some friends over the years

Here he is with Oscar the rat. He did enjoy chomping on Oscar's tail though.

But Oscar was also good for cuddling up to after a hard days naughtiness

Of course - Ratatouille - although he was never that fond of him

And here's everyone on the bed

And then there was Mr Broccoli.

It was more of love-hate relationship with Mr Broccoli. He is a bed-buddy, and I would always put him in Reggie's hammock to keep him company at night, but sometimes found him in the strangest places in the morning - shoved in the corner of his litter, in his igloo or just tossed out during the night. As much as he hated him though, sometimes he would collect him from his banished spot and carry him back to his hammock

Here they are together in the hammock

And here is where I found him one morning

Reggie loved food!

One of Reggie's favourite pastimes was eating. He was always on the lookout for food and demanded some whenever he came out his cage. He would also only settle in bed at night once he had fleeced you for as much food as he wanted. Naughty boy! And we just couldn't deny him.

January 2008 - age 8 months - lots of food & treats!

Here he's eating a piece of banana - which he loved.

more eating

a new toy - a hanging 'kebab' stick with pieces of banana and apple

'I'm watching you - don't you come near me and my food!'

May 2008 - 1 yrs old

This is Reggie waiting for his morning porridge oats. He loved his porridge oats and would peek around the sofa waiting for it to be delivered. He ate it on the sofa, so sometimes he would wait there or sometimes he would come into the kitchen to hurry you up.

Yum! porridge!

July 2008 - 1yr & 2 months old - a big boy!

It was soon after that he went to the vet and we were told he was too big at 810g! So out went the daily treats. No more apples & bananas - which are full of sugar and no more porridge.

and food started to get measured and controlled.

April 2009 - age 1yr & 11 months - looking trim and more energetic than ever.

Dear Reggie

The letter in the post below (letter from daddy) is from a journal I started after Reggie died. It was so hard not to have him around any more that I started to write to him to tell him how much I missed him.

I also write down everything I can remember about his life with us - from his morning routine to his bedtime routine, to the many names he had - Reg, Reggie, Reginald!, gorgeous boy, dollface. Also memories of when he was a naughty teenage rat and we couldn't get him out from under the sofa bed, and how amazingly well he did on our trip over to Dublin - being on that noisy ferry that was rocking and rolling in the waves.

An amazing little boy who's little life changed ours forever.

We will never forget you my little angel.

A letter from Daddy

Well my little man - Mr Man - my beautiful boy, what can I say? I miss you and all the joy you brought to me more than words can describe - you were simply the best, most amazing, most adorable son a daddy could ever wish for! A day will not go by when I don't miss you.

You were always leading the way - heading up the 'male revolution' in the household; your sheer naughtiness, determination, loveableness and sometimes stinkiness were truly something to behold! Most of all, you were such a handsome boy - so shiny and so bright-eyed.

And you made me so proud of you every day... for always wanting love, for always wanting tickles, for always wanting 'buzz bombs' and for just generally being the most amazing and beautiful creature that ever lived.

But most of all, more than anything, from father to son, thank you for looking after your mommy so well and for all the neverending joy you have brought into our lives.

Such a small critter, such a massive impact.

My boy. My Reggie. Daddy loves you.

Mommy's boy

These are some of the things Reggie did with his mommy

Playing in mommy's handbag

Oh the things that he found! Usually I put the bag out of his reach, but sometimes I would forget and he would quickly be in it. And the more frantic I got to get him out, the more determined he was to find the 'treasure'! One time he ran off with a packet of chewing gum - and then squeaked loudly when I tried to take it away from him. Another time he chewed through my tube of hand lotion.

One time I actually did have a treat in there for him, which I'd forgotten about, and he was very happy to be left to eat his treasure in peace.

Playing in mommy's clothes

This time a scarf

Helping to clean his cage

Usually he would come along and pee in his newly cleaned cage!

Helping with the housework

He was always getting into things and I had to triple-check I hadn't put him in the washing machine.

Watching TV with mommy

After a day at work, I would come home and relax in front of the TV. Reggie always took that opportunity to lounge around on my lap. Of course I then realise the remote is far away and I'm stuck with whatever channel is on - not wanting to disturb the little boy.

Sleeping on mommy's lap

He loved to sleep on my lap, especially if I had my soft gown on. This usually prevented me from getting anything done!

Kisses

I got a kiss every morning before he came out his cage and every night time before he went to bed - and a whole lot in between.

Tummy kisses

Daddy's boy

Reggie got different things from both of us, but his daddy gave the best tickles!

And had the best fingers to lick
